Flowers for Cakes
Cakes are often found decorated with somekind of floral arrangment, it can be real or with artificial flowers. The majority of wedding cakes are decorated with fresh flowers such as lilleys and roses, sometimes decorated instead with sugar flowers. These sugar flowers are handmade and edable. Cakes that are accompanied by alot of flowers are known as floral cakes, many celebration cakes can fall into this category, including wedding cakes, birthday cakes and designer cakes.
Floral decorations can either be fresh/real flowers, like roses, lilleys and other colourful flowers, or artificial flowers that can either be handmade sugar flowers or are plastic. Traditionally, fresh flowers would adorn traditional wedding cakes, but with the advancement of decorator skills and the tools available to cake decorators, they can now be made from sugar.
The advantage of sugar flower decorations is that they last alot longer than traditional flowers and they are edible. Sugar flowers can be made to mimic fresh flowers and often the difference between the two can't be seen. Plastic flower decorations are much cheaper but lack the realism and asthetic qualites possesed by fresh and handmade sugar flower decorations.
